Voicing & tone shaping
Voicing is the adjustment of a piano’s hammers to influence how the strings speak. It can help address unevenness or a tone that feels too hard or too soft, but the result depends on the piano’s condition and the player’s preference.
Tone is personal
A piano’s sound comes from many parts working together. Voicing is considered in context, with careful listening across the keyboard and a discussion of the tone you want.
Condition matters
Hammer condition, regulation, strings and the instrument’s general health can all affect the result. Voicing does not replace repairs or regulation where those are needed.
Describe what you hear
Tell us which notes or areas sound uneven and what you would like to change. A technician can assess whether voicing is appropriate for the piano.
Service areas
Melbourne is Joel’s primary service area and Brisbane is Jonathan Kok’s. Sydney and Perth are by appointment only. Share your suburb so the right service arrangements can be discussed.
Ask about your piano
Tell us about your piano and ask whether voicing & tone shaping is the right next step. We’ll discuss the instrument and what you have noticed before work begins.
