Helpful piano care guidance

Frequently asked questions.

Clear answers about tuning, repairs and arranging a visit. For advice about your instrument, Jonathan or Joel can talk through what it may need.

Tuning & piano condition

How often should I have my piano tuned?

At least once a year is a good minimum for a home piano. Many benefit from tuning twice a year, especially if played regularly or affected by seasonal humidity changes. The right schedule depends on how well your piano holds pitch and your musical needs.

Can you tune a piano that has not been tuned for years?

It may be possible, but the piano should be assessed first. If it is substantially below pitch, a pitch raise may be recommended before fine tuning.

Repairs & appointments

Can I ask about a repair and a tuning together?

Yes. Describe both when you get in touch. Some repairs may be handled at the same visit, while others need more assessment, parts or a separate plan.

What information should I include in an enquiry?

Your city and suburb, piano type and brand if known, when it was last tuned if you know, and what you have noticed. A photo or short video can help explain a concern.

How do I book an appointment?

Booking arrangements are being added to the website. For now, call or email with your piano details and location so Dr Piano can discuss availability and the next step.
